Delicate chiseled leather puppets called wayang kuilt illuminate the story while the sounds of an Indonesian gamelan orchestra draw rhythmic motion from every figure, animal, and tree.

ARTISTS/PRESENTER

Mandala presents beloved Chicago artist and cultural educator I Gusti Ngurah Kertayuda. Following 25 years of promoting Indonesian Cultural Arts, Ngurah was awarded the 2014 Artist Fellowship Award for Ethnic and Folk Art from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.

Founded in 2014 by award-winning Chicago artist and curator, Pranita Jain Nayar, Mandala South Asian Performing Arts connects audiences with the performing arts traditions of South Asia. Mandala offers powerful engagement with unique and expert dancers, musicians, and storytellers whose origins reach from the Himalayan ranges to the Indian Ocean, from Persia to Indonesia.

The Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, an Illinois not-for-profit organization, is committed to presenting the finest in international, cultural, community, and educational programming to Chicago, and to the continued restoration and preservation of the National Historic Landmark Auditorium Theatre.
